dirty--

Homeless? I thought you said earlier they were hicks? Actually they are city and suburban folk.

We'll see.

From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch earlier in the day.

Secretary of State Bekki Cook predicts more than 2.4 million Missouri voters will cast ballots. A state record, if accurate, it could help Democrats in what has become the most unusual U.S. Senate race in Missouri history and one of the closest presidential races in a long time.

"Enthusiasm among voters is still quite high because they understand the importance of this election," Cook said.

The question on everyone's mind is whether a dead candidate, the late Gov. Mel Carnahan, can defeat Sen. John Ashcroft. When Carnahan died with his son Randy and campaign adviser Chris Sifford in a plane crash three weeks ago, it plunged the state into grief and the Senate campaign into chaos.

Polls say it's just possible that Carnahan could win. In the last Zogby tracking poll for the Post-Dispatch, Carnahan, a Democrat, had a narrow lead over Ashcroft, a Republican. But the difference was within the margin of error, so close that any outcome is possible.
