Ted,, I am not so sure that the big institutions are doing all of the selling. If you look at this site you can see that institutional holdings as a percentage of float has gone up drastically the last two quarters. Granted this doesn't include oct. but the nos were going up the last 2 quarters. Could be a lot of churning due to tax loss selling along with buying. 63.9 and 61.3% last two quarters and Intels is about 54%. Institutions picked up 32 million shares 2 quarters ago and had a net gain of 8 million last quarter, which is not that shabby.

Someone has been selling...if they hadn't, the stock would not have dropped from $45 to $16. And the selling was not tax loss, it was primarily locking in gains. Its not the number of institutions but the amount of shares they are holding. Fidelity still holds but it has reduced its shares dramatically.
