Hello Letmebe Frank:

Actually, the paragraph you're referring to was meant for teevee -- its a long story. In a few words, SUF thought it had the rights to all of M1 when at the 11th hour a bunch of "heirs" made a claim for the rights. Eventually De Beeres, SUF and an empowerement group made a JV out of the whole mess.

Yes, the proposed mining legislation will go through; the opposition doesn't like it but its a democratically elected govt and it drafted the White Paper. It simply means that white farmers can no longer sit on the resources and manipulate. The govt is telling the land owners -- if you don't use it, you lose it. This will encourage foreign exploration companies to move in a stable mineral rights area and create jobs, etc.
No, SUF will not lose the mineral rights... in fact the company is very well liked in SA mainly because of Dr. Jennings, a South African himself. SUF has always dealt fairly with the work force, paid its taxes and followed the rules. In my view that was one of the chief reasons SUF managed to hold onto 40% of Marsfontaine. It also owns 100% of Klipspringer.
Hope this makes it a little clearer... or did I muddy the waters even further?
Cheers. goalie.
