QCOM--QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies Announces IMT-2000 WCDMA Single-Chip Infrastructure Solution
CSM5200 Cell Site Modem Enables Design of Highly Integrated WCDMA Base Station Equipment
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2000--QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), developer of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced the introduction of the CSM5200(TM) Cell Site Modem (CSM(TM)), part of an end-to-end solution which meets the IMT-2000 Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) mode for the third-generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). The CSM5200 chipset and system software solution developed by QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT) will support 3G services and high-data rate features and capabilities in an efficient, high-performance solution that leverages QCT's extensive experience in delivering technology for CDMA base station and test equipment.

``The CSM5200 solution represents a logical extension of our product portfolio, and builds on our engineering experience and history of on-time delivery of CDMA chipsets and system software,'' said Don Schrock, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. ``By providing infrastructure manufacturers with the technology and support to design powerful and cost-efficient wireless systems, we will continue to help them meet worldwide consumer demand in emerging 3G markets.''

Supporting the WCDMA mode for the UMTS system, the CSM5200 solution is based on the proven, commercially available CSM family of products and is built on QCT's extensive CDMA systems expertise. The CSM5200 chip includes tested and tuned diagnostic tools and methods used for product design with the CSM5000(TM) chip, and the CSM5200's Application Programming Interface (API) has the same structure as the CSM5000 API. Since nearly all major commercial CDMA infrastructure providers use QCT's CSM5000 solution, these similarities provide optimized system performance and ease of integration, and will allow infrastructure designers to ramp up system development quickly using solid, tested and familiar tools and environments. The CSM5200 solution also leverages tested CSM5000 software, including ARM-based uplink channel processing, messaging interfaces, and simulation and development environment -- all of which facilitate the development of more reliable and highly integrated WCDMA base stations.

The CSM5200 chip, which will be tested end-to-end with QCT's MSM5200(TM) single-chip Mobile Station Modem (MSM(TM)) and system software, features:

Two Megabit per second (Mbps) data throughput
Six-sector support, with 12 uplink antenna inputs and 12 downlink antenna outputs
Support for 16 simultaneous data or voice users
Integrated ARM-7(TM) processor -- performs low-level physical layer tasks
Standard 66 Megahertz (MHz) Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) interface to simplify device integration
Device Driver software
Sample shipments of the CSM5200 solution are expected during the fourth quarter of 2001.

Chicago Sun-Times headline: HILLARY WINS

I guess Chicago is somehow now under the impression that Hillary was running for one of Illinois' two U. S. Senate seats. After all, she grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.

The dumbing of America continues . . . .

RE: Can you believe, a dead man is elected.......

Can you believe it that his name could not be replaced on the ballot after he died? There is no way the folks in the SHOW ME state were going to let the incumbent go back unopposed.
