There have been numerous attempts to abolish the EC, all of them failed.

What goes unnoticed is that in 1976 and 1968 and 1960, a fairly small number of votes rearranged would have created a split decision in those years as well as the potential split decision this year.

But then, have we not adopted the equivalent of the Electoral College in the world series, the NBA/NHL playoffs?

Each game is a state, of equal size. The runs/points/goals scored in each game are like the popular vote.
If one team wins the world series 4 games to 1 but is outscored 12 runs to 8, do we say the team that won 4 games to 1 doesn't deserve it because they scored fewer TOTAL runs?
