Hello Elmat, my primary intent was not to compare DSL to wireless as much as I was exposing some of DSL's other uses that don't rodinarily get discussed. Will ADSL be profitable when sold to single line residential users, you ask?

Who knows at this stage what type of "medium" will be profitable, and what will be a "loss-lead" that sells up to something else in the enhanced "services" realm? I don't have a clear vision on how or what will eventually be redeemed into shekels, once the pricing levels for bandwidth and the ultimate effects of competition find their respective resting places. Will DSL yield on its own the kinds of margins that entrepreneurs envisaged two years ago? IMO, no.

I don't think so. I don't think anyone in their right mind would want the single line POTS customer. It isn't worth it. All this flab about ATT and all wanting to be able to serve the local customers is smoke and mirrors. All they want are the lucrative big businesses. I don't think the POTS customer, in general, is going to be willing to pay the cost
of high speed data services. Of course we could have the government jump in and demand service for all at a reasonable rate(Universal service). Sound like Vail all over again?

Elmatador, I happen to be deploying fixed wireless and VPN's on a daily basis. Our wireless local loops are providing connectivity to regions were dsl is not readily available or where the associated cost is higher then that of our service. Coupled with our channel partners fully managed solutions we can implement session wall or Intel based boxes running through the loops to our fiber optic backbone with little latency. On a national network that was built exclusively for data! Making it an idle situation for our clients.
Just my 2 bits, down with dsl.
