QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies Announces IMT-2000 WCDMA Single-Chip Solution for Handsets

MSM5200 Chip and System Software Supports WCDMA and Wireless Internet Capabilities

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2000--QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), developer of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital
wireless technology, today announced the introduction of the MSM5200(TM) single-chip Mobile Station Modem (MSM (TM)) and system software, part of a
complete solution which meets the IMT-2000 Wideband CDMA (WCDMA) mode for the third-generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System
(UMTS). The MSM5200 solution, developed using QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies' (QCT) proven CDMA technology platform, supports 3G services and
high-data-rate features.

``QUALCOMM is committed to meeting 3G standards requirements by extending our CDMA, wireless Internet and multimedia expertise to the emerging
WCDMA market,'' said Don Schrock, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. ``The MSM5200 solution will enable manufacturers and carriers worldwide
to focus on product and service differentiation while gaining time-to-market and cost efficiencies.''

The MSM5200 solution supports 384 kilobit per second (kbps) data as defined in the User Equipment (UE) Reference Capability, and is based on QCT's system
expertise and proven, commercially available products. The MSM5200 solution offers the integrated features of QCT's Wireless Internet Launchpad(TM) suite
of advanced technologies and software, including SnapTrack(TM) position-location technology, Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, UMTS Subscriber Identity
Module (SIM), and multimedia features such as Qtunes(TM) Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-1) Layer-3 (MP3) player software support and Compact
Media Extension (CMX(TM)) Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI)-based multimedia software. The MSM5200 chip is also capable of interfacing to QCT's
Mobile Station Processor (MSP(TM))
microprocessor family which is designed to perform the functions associated with personal digital assistant (PDA) applications, including support for streaming
video using the MPEG-4 format.

The combination of features offered by the MSM5200 solution will allow manufacturers to develop a wide range of feature-rich products for wireless
multimedia applications -- from standard voice-and-data handsets to smart phones that include voice, data, multimedia and organizer capabilities --quickly,
securely and cost efficiently.

``The MSM5200 solution represents a direct, evolutionary development of QCT's previous chipsets, and manufacturers who have been using our existing
CDMA offerings will be able to keep development time for WCDMA products to a minimum,'' said Johan Lodenius, senior vice president of marketing and
product management for
QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. ``Because we offer a complete solution with end-to-end technology, chipsets, system software, rich feature sets and
support, new manufacturers will also be able to launch WCDMA products rapidly.''

The MSM5200 chipset and system software sample shipments are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2001.

QCT is a developer and supplier of CDMA chipsets, hardware and software solutions, and tools, with more than 118 million cumulative shipments of MSM
chips worldwide. QCT offers wireless position location technology by SnapTrack, a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM. QCT supplies chipsets to the
