David, compromise is a good thing in political policy making and specifically it is essential in this particular climate you have down there.. policies too extreme will cause deep divisions in your country. Remember.. if Bush hangs on to win after this Florida re-count, part of the reason he did is because Nader took enough votes away from Gore to help Bush - and the great majority of these voters are on the left of the political spectrum. If he is smart, he will try to push moderate policies so that he doesnt alienate these voters so much against him that they will swing back into the Democratic camp the next time around.. in fact, its in his best interest politically to do this - keeping a small but activist political left-wing party afloat allows him to split the Democratic vote... extreme policies will do nothing but "unite the left" and cause the 20% swing voters and independents to abandon him and the Republicans.
