I don't know that things would have gone in Bush's favor. A good case could be made that Demos stayed home thinking it was in the bag. IMHO the projecting and "calling" of states is a far bigger problem than any electoral college/ popular vote issue.

In all fairness, that may have produced a larger vote for Nader in the West (since the borderlines "thought" that Gore was going to coast into the White House, and voted for Nader to get his numbers up). I have never subscribed to the thought that Nader's base would automatically vote for Gore. I think that they're disenfranchised liberals who didn't see Gore as worthy of their vote.
