Oregon undecided, but leaning Bush

Wednesday, November 8, 2000

By Jeff Mapes of The Oregonian staff

George W. Bush held a narrow lead in Oregon early
todayas the state remained one of the hardest in the
country to call.

Republicans were confident they would win the state's
electoral votes. Democrats still thought a surge of voters in
heavily Democratic Multnomah and Lane counties might
swing the state for Al Gore.

Oregon joined Florida and Wisconsin as the country's last
undecided states. But all attention turned to the Sunshine
State when the networks announced about 11:15 p.m.
Tuesday that Florida had given Bush the electoral votes he
needed for the White House.

REPUBLICANS: CAN WE ALL AGREE TO BE GOOD WINNERS?

(assuming the vote in FL holds).

There is nothing to be gained by crowing, and rubbing peoples' faces in it. We are going to be faced with negativity, but there are some good people on the other side of the isle on this thread that do not deserve our being negative. We can be good winners.

I know this thread has been negative for quite some time, but perhaps we can move beyond that, and rise above being petty (as some are accusing the other side of being).

Let's not be hypocrites.

Regards to all of all sides,

LoF
