A record-setting 10 women will serve in the U.S. Senate.

CNN projected Wednesday that Republicans held 50 seats and Democrats 49, with one race undecided -- Washington state.

On top of those pending outcomes, the wild card was the undecided race for the White House.

In case of an initial 50-50 split in the Senate, Republicans would still maintain control, no matter who wins the presidency.

A Republican vice president, in his role as president of the Senate, would break a tie in favor of the GOP.
