"he will be completely impotent in the Whitehouse."

Maybe Monica will fix that, she's got experience in the Oval Office.

As for how the election was conducted, what do you think the reason for extending St Louis was?

Scubria - That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen you say. We have a system. We have had it and used it for the life of our nation. People can win close elections by as little as one vote. Sometimes they tie. Nothing says that someone has to win by X votes to be legit. The Democrats do not control the House or the Senate. How can they, who lost the election, not accept it? And if they do, what does not accepting it mean? They are just digging their own political graves. The brother of the candidate cannot singlehandedly overturn the election in Florida. There will be tons of Democrats on the ground there to help him.

Scumbria, RE: It is pretty scary having an election decided by 2,000 votes, overseen by the brother of the electoral college winner (and popular loser), and with serious questions about the way the election was conducted.

And why exactly do you think that the man directly responsible for overseeing the elections there, the attorney general (who, by the way, is Gore's campaign manager in Florida) is letting the GOP steal these votes.

Face it, both parties have known for quite some time that Florida was very, very close. Everywhere there's a Republican counting, you can be sure that there's a Democrat looking over his shoulder, and vice versa.

Scumbria,

re:"We should all hope that Gore wins the recount, for the good of our democracy."

It is fortunate WE have the opportunity to vote against your view of democracy.

If Bush's victory holds up, there will be a major crisis in Washington. Democrats will not accept a Bush election, and he will be completely impotent in the Whitehouse.

We should all hope that Gore wins the recount, for the good of our democracy.

Boy, do I disagree with that. I want to see the candidates (and parties) rise above this, and resist the temptation to try to legally manipulate the system. I'm not saying who I voted for, but NOW I want the guy who got the most votes to win, period. As far as the good thing for democracy, both parties should agree NOT to challenge this vote, once the recount and if necessary overseas ballots are counted. I'm afraid that there is so much at stake there will be a temptation to fight.

You want to see the market tank, imagine months of lawsuits with the election not settled. Now that's a scary thing for democracy.

(BTW, I've seen interviews with local election officials, and they are taking their national responsibility VERY SERIOUSLY. These are just plain old folks, not politicians trying to steal an election. And there are reps from both parties in each polling place where the recount is taking place.)

SCUMbria - Re: ". Democrats will not accept a Bush election, and he will be completely impotent in the Whitehouse."

Maybe a visit from Clinton's girl friend - Monica - will help his "potency" while in the White House.

Jeb has stepped away from the process.
I'll be surprised if a recount helps Gore. If anything it might uncover a little pro Gore hanky panky, like tabulators originally calibrated with a couple hundred for Gore as the original setting...LOL...
