Cole...It didn't hurt Clinton one bit that he didn't have a majority of the vote....they claimed a mandate anyway and the rest is history.....

OT:

Gold stocks getting decimated today despite the end of institutional tax selling and just a slight drop in gold bullion. Something RADICALLY wrong here. Not the slightest sign of a bottom.

<<One other thing re: the election. Gore won the popular vote by a few hundred thousand. This will hurt Bush's ability to govern
even if he does win Florida. Will also increase pressure to end the electoral college system. >>

The "Nader Trader" web site (and other vote trading systems of their ilk) could have helped Gore in states like Florida and Oregon, had vote swapping been more prominent. So the liberals are saying.
Reading further into this, I and other Republicans in California and New York would have been happy to send our votes to Florida to help the Bush vote count there, as our states vote decidedly Democratic. Ultimately, the more widespread vote swapping becomes, the more the electoral college becomes pointless and the popular vote would rule.
