And it's a little disingenuous for people to say that Gore has to follow the rules (which I agree with) while Ashcroft does not; state law dictates what happens in this situation, and he -- and his supporters -- should live with, just like Gore may have to live with winning the popular vote and losing the Presidency. Also, his statement that he will "discourage" a legal challenge is a bit weasely; if he is serious, he should direct his supporters to refrain from bringing such a challenge, and that he would have nothing to do with any such challenge.
