Ted, Part humor, but there is a valid core of truth. Those that feel Canada is the best place in the world to live have not lived in a few of the really good places to live.
Out much vaunted public medical system that is free for all is foundering under excess beaurocracy, excess union demands and work rules.
Did you know you can get a cat scan for your dog any night of the week, but a human must join a waiting list that can be 3-6 months long. The scanner is run at night for cash on pets etc for $200 per scan. People charge the medical system $1000 or more due to cost loadings etc that distort the true cost.
If they ran them 24/7 there would be no waiting list.
The waiting list is so long that people die before getting scans etc.
Many go to buffalo.
My cousin got bone cancer, could not get a scan for 3 months, finally went to San Diego and paid for one. Too late, died at 46, nice, apparently healthy woman, gone before her time.
All the people here are brainwashed to think private health care is inferior as it has the dirty profit motive in it.
Yet they pay staff more in the USA, after taxes.
The local papers say we have better wages here....HAH.
We have a totally corrupt system and I have no idea how they measure Canada as the #1 place to live. Geneva is better, Hong Kong is better, New Zealand is better, Australia is better, USA is better...I could go on. however enough OT rant. I am lucky it is a slow day on the boards.
