do you have a similar system like the one employed over here?

You have two officials one from each party overseeing everything, but you have to remember that a huge portion of the population in Florida is elderly and guess what, so are the election officials.

When I lived in Baltimore City I had to vote at a retirement highrise. It was comical watching these officials try to find your name on the list. Sometimes because they were seemingly looking completely bewildered, I'd politely as possible reach out and point out my name on the list for them (reading it upside down from the other side of the table). Even then there would be this 30 second wait before it would register on their face that they had a match.

Thankfully every single ballot is crossed with signature and card. So they will know if ballots are missing or extra from that precinct.

Heinz, actually it is wide open in most polling locations in the US. And the amazing thing is that (at least in Texas) the mechanical aspects of voting (handing out ballets, checking ID, etc.)in each precinct are run by the dominant party - the job of precinct judge is a PARTISAN job. There are very few checks and balances and there are probably some Bannana Republics with better controls.

The whole election thing in Florida looks like a banana republic farce. Maybe the UN should send some election supervisors next time <G>.

I was in the gym last night when the election story was on CNN. The girl next to me said to her friend:
" Is this the election today? Is this real? " Maybe not.
And no she wasn't blonde...
