Texas Gov. George W. Bush managed to win in usually dominant
Democratic counties to pull off a close victory over Vice President
Al Gore to win West Virginia's five electoral votes.

With 65 percent of the
state's precincts
reporting, Bush had won 51 percent of the vote to 47 percent for
Democrat Al Gore. Bush made history by winning a state where
Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1.

LOL! Jennings has long gotten away with too much only because Rather is so egregious. One of my favorites is when he compared the Young Pioneers, which was the youth wing of the Communist Party and engaged in paramilitary training and indoctrination, rather like Hitler Youth, to the Boy Scouts.........
