Joe: Re: "Your UAW people want more time and to be paid for performing their civic responsibility."

When you ASSUME what I will say you make an ASS of U and ME.

For Christmas this year I want a new Buick Park Avenue. However, it is up to Santa Claus to deliver it to me.

Why in the world would Ford, GM et al agree to a contract provision calling for a paid day off on 11-7-00? This was not done unilaterally. It was a bargained-for day off. Several years ago our union bargained for holiday status for Martin Luther King Day. Management said fine, if you want MLK declared a holiday, give up one of your other days off -- anniversary day or birthday holiday. We said OK. How do you know that the UAW did not bargain in same fashion? Why is it not proper for the UAW to get out the vote while it is proper for paid Republican staffers to do likewise?

I think the answer lies in the fact that unions are highly effective in supporting a candidate that represents the common working man and common working woman.
