During COMDEX at the Riviera Suite #6407 in the Monaco Tower

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Exabyte Corporation (Nasdaq:
EXBT), a performance leader in network storage, today announced that its
NetStorM(TM) SAN Alliance partnership program has reached a turning
point in delivering native fibre tape storage in a SAN environment. The alliance
provides a foundation for manufacturers to test for functionality,
interoperability, compatibility and performance, and ensures that all
components function at an optimum level in a SAN environment.

The NetStorM SAN Alliance combines automated tape drives and libraries --
Exabyte's M2(TM) (Mammoth-2) tape drive, X80 and X200 tape libraries
with built-in fibre channel connectivity -- coupled with support from the
industry's leading network hardware and backup software vendors. The
foundation for NetStorM is in the thorough testing and certification process
implemented by Exabyte in conjunction with its partners ensuring that all
partner products, from hardware to software, work together in a managed
storage network environment. As part of the alliance, Exabyte and its partners
have established points of contact for support and engineering between
organizations to ensure cooperative resolution of maintenance and
development issues.

NetStorM SAN Alliance partners include certified vendors representative of
all aspects of a SAN solution, including tape drives and libraries, switches,
routers, servers, and hubs. Hardware vendors currently include ATTO,
Brocade, Cambex, Chaparral, Crossroads, Emulex, Gadzoox, Interphase,
McData, QLogic, Vixel and XIOtech. Software vendors include Bakbone,
Computer Associates (CA), Legato, Veritas and Tivoli.

"The NetStorM SAN Alliance is based on Exabyte's SAN philosophy that
companies should focus on what they do best, recognize the core
competencies of others and partner with those companies to deliver the best
possible SAN solution to the customer," said Jim Campbell, Exabyte's
NetStorM SAN Alliance manager. "We are confident that by collaborating
with the NetStorM SAN Alliance partners, we are able to ensure the reliable,
high-speed backup and recovery capabilities of a SAN better than any one
storage vendor. Partnering with these companies is not only crucial to
delivering quality products today, but also to the development of tomorrow's
standards, such as serverless backup."

"The biggest challenge today is putting together heterogeneous SANs using
different vendors' components," said Mike Kane, marketing director for
Emulex Corporation, a member of the NetStorM SAN Alliance. "Basic
interoperability issues at the device level that we saw a couple of years ago
really have been resolved through a combination of industry-wide efforts and
through the initiatives of OEMs collaborating to ensure everything works
together as a solution."
