People should not vote unless they have an informed opinion. Those with an informed opinion are likelier to be motivated to vote even if it is somewhat inconvenient. Therefore, it is beneficial to democracy to discourage people from voting. Not so hard an argument, even if stated somewhat paradoxically......

I think that many women are wonderfully informed. I offered a reason for the gender gap that supposed that women, on average, are somewhat less interested in and informed about politics. It was mainly a way of countering the argument that women tilted to Gore because they were more morally sensitive, by offering an alternative. Similarly, I offered a provocative view of the difference between conservatives and liberals mainly because I am sick of liberals using political opinions as a proxy for intelligence, and therefore making overblown assertion about Bush and his supporters being moronic...........
