Gore's proud, honorable exit.

What I see in Florida: the recount changes nothing significant, Bush still leads by 1200-2000. The ~2500 overseas absentee ballots go 2/3 for Bush (as predicted by a Gore campaign staffer). The Palm Beach ballot confusion is addressed and all other complaints on both sides are quite validly registered. But, in the end, nothing is legally contested.

The matter of Florida’s 25 Electoral votes is resolved “Constitutionally and expeditiously.” Al Gore accepts with dignity and honor the “defeat” of having been the first choice of the American people in 2000 (confounding the pollsters and pundits!), as well as the most popular Democratic party candidate since the easy LBJ victory a year after JFK’s assassination.

Should this happen, Al Gore will have permanently separated himself and his own legacy from that of Bill Clinton – and will permanently (in my mind, but I also believe in American history) become a man of honor, dignity, courage, selflessness, integrity, and grace.

Neo, fully agree. Even when we marked X's in a box we had to be taught how to correctly mark the ballot. For those who have any doubts about the merits of this issue go look at the ballot.
