That would instill the two-party system, something that I neither care for, nor do I believe was in the wishes of our Founding Fathers. Just the opposite, they disdained political parties. James Madison warned against political factions. Granted, Madison was himself credited as a founding member of the Republican pary, but that was as a consequence of his common beliefs with other like-minded individuals such as Jefferson, rather than due to any formal structure. Unfortunately, political parties became a necessity, but if so, let's let a thousand flowers bloom rather than restrict them to only two.Imo, third party candidates like Nader do nothing other than distort the voice of the electorate. Just the opposite, IMHO, they allow voters of all persuasions to make a difference in peaceful, rather than violent, means. Nader voters are electorate as well.I'd also like to see the election based on popular vote rather than the archaic electoral college. That would further dilute the power of the States, something which our Founding Fathers though enough about to instill in our Constitution. And while we're at it, how about voting via the internet or a dedicated intranet, which MtnLady proposed earlier today, to modernize the expensive, slow, and error prone counting process. I'm sure that will happen, though internet security is not yet good enough to prevent a calculated, sophisticated attack. Finally it's about time we enacted legislation to muzzle the press on voting day until the process is complete nationwide. Here, here! Maybe their double embarassment last night, calling Florida for Gore, then Bush, then neither, will be a forcing function.
