After reading some of the response's on the college I have been educated and changed my mind.

I am in WI with obviously a small population when compared to the large cities of our country. Your right in that if it was popular vote only the candidates would concentrate where they would get the most bang for the buck. We would cease to exist under that scenario and would live with whoever LA, NY, Miami, etc. selected.

Perhaps the system needs to be tweaked and perhaps the system is good where it is and I just didn't think it all out before.

One of the things I love about these boards with both stocks and whatever. Cause's me to think about my positions and defend them. Often come to the realization that I don't know what the hell I'm talking about!

Arlen Specter R PA wants to get rid of EC.
heard on NPR today that Moderate Repub Senator Arlen Specter, said that he would consider introducing constitutional amendment to get rid of the EC say that popular vote was inherently more democratic.
It is interesting, coming from a republican, but Specter is quite independent that way.
However cannot see 38 states ratifying it, essentially signing away their importance and moment in the sun. Imagine no more NH primaries or Iowa caucus, who cares, not enough population.
On the left, there are some who suggest that we need more states, ie LA and Chi town become independent states thus getting their population +2 EC votes. Basically every one tries to increase their power, so it will not happen easily.
A compromise would be to reduce the smalles state's Ec count from 3 to 2, so that it would bring it closer to pop vote.
