Thank you, I hope you don't mind if I use that, it sums up this election better than any other statement I've seen, and does so in a few choice words. I have spent the last year being embarrassed for my age group by these clowns and I quite frankly can't recall a lamer pair of Presidential candidates in my lifetime. I have long resisted the notion that Nixon ruined the office of the Presidency with his Watergate antics. However, I simply have not seen statesmen of the caliber of Eisenhower or Johnson for many years; whether or not you agree with their politics and performance, there is no question that they fundamentally stood for the better values of this blessed Republic. One has always been able to find venal men of small mind in American politics. However, it seems now that it has finally driven off any other sort of participant. The most painfully obvious thing about either Bush or Gore is that they are very simply errand boys sent by grocery clerks; neither one manifests any evidence that their ideologies are more than code-talk or subterfuges devised to manipulate voters, and it's not at all difficult to determine who their owners are. As men, Gore and Bush seem to be little more than the continuation of bloodlines of hereditary bureaucrats. As I recall, the Founding Fathers had some fundamental issues with such professional politicians for life, and I suspect we are doing our forefathers a great disservice and disrespect by accepting this circumstance as normative. We will see if this election proves to be some sort of milestone in the decline of American democracy. I only hope that when the lawyers are finally through screwing it up, their ultimate reward is commensurate to their accomplishments.
