Here in NY, I just watched the news on this. I saw a self proclaimed poll watcher (complete with her Gore buttons) screaming fraud.
Another (without any buttons) saying there was some confusion, but nothing that was different on other voting days.
Coming from the NY press, sounds like there were problems, but that it's business as usual and the losers are bit sore.

Michael, if so, then anyone who made a mistake was entitled to get a new ballot and recast their vote before leaving the booth. That happened too.

As to the clarity of the form, anyone that could follow a horizontal line would have made the correct choice. The ballot was out a long time before the election for both democrats and republicans to comment upon.

What the argument hinges upon is the fact that Buchanan got enough votes to offset the difference between Bush and Gore in PB County. The fact is that 1% of the vote nationwide was targeted for Buchanan. With that, 1% of roughly 6 million votes is 60,000 votes. The fact that Buchanan got far less is not an aberration in my eyes, but mathematically very plausible especially given that his views are adhered by some, although not by me.

To now say that those votes should be Gore's is preposterous, especially when one had a chance to rectify the problem while in the booth. No one was badgering anyone in the booth. I bet you that if the margin in Bush's favor were larger, we would not be having this discussion. I also bet that if Florida had been declared for Bush earlier on in the night, that some other state would have been classified as the swing state for the election, and the fight would be elsewhere.

After all, talk about the irregularities in St. Louis, Mo., where the polls were basically stuffed for long after the closing time. Talk about the close vote in Wisconsin and Iowa. I don't see the Republicans asking for a recount there, where the margin of votes is less than 5000 in each of the states.

The level of this discourse will really get ugly if Gore takes the bait of fighting this thing every step of the way and not letting the voice of the people stand. IMO, he will do himself more harm than good. Let the recount take place and the military overseas ballots be counted and then be done with it, whichever way it falls. That's my peace. But the rest, it is just opportunistic, illegitimate, and quite transparent in my humble opinion.

Jesse Jackson was holding a vigil in a Miami Baptist church for all those whose voices were not heard on election night (i.e., those unregistered voters that did not vote for Gore). He wants their voices heard and their vote counted. How do you stop this, when do you stop this, when is enough enough? The fact is that there have been no irregularities that have been substantiated by fact, although that language is being used freely nad casually in the liberal press, creating the perception that it has acually occurred. If that were the case, the news would have been out and all over long before 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, especially since the majority of the polling supervisors are Democrats.
