No, I don't have a link about the education part. The rankings I heard quoted have long been bandied about, but I've never heard a source quoted. I do know that here in Houston, our children tested near the national average last year and that shocked everyone, including me. I was about to write Dubya a long congratulations note. Alas, reporters then found out that teachers had gotten copies of the tests in advance and coached the kids. So, who knows how accurate they are?

The funny thing is that I always here about how awful Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana are, but I never hear about which states are scoring well. And I always hear that we could add greatly to our national scores if we'd just go ahead and make Japan a state. <g>
