the selling has NOTHING to do w/ the election... NOTHING.

Of course, you're right; however, it's a theory that can easily be sold by the media to J6P.

Then, provided we get some more tasty selloffs after Bush is confirmed the winner, the media will again attribute the losses to the election uncertainty and the public's "lack of a mandate...(yawn)." Then, a month later when J6P gets his 401K statement, he'll naturally blame it on Bush. You KNOW that's how it'll play out.

And given that scenario, I sort of wish Al Bore would take it...I could almost accept 4 years of Gore if it meant the Demos would get destroyed in the future, because J6P blamed his losses on them...let's face it, whoever the next Prez is, he's in a no-win situation. This market will surely make a goat out of whoever sits at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

I think it does. Makes people question their previous thoughts about the predictability of the perfect future. That has been one of the big problems all along.

And who knows how long this is going to drag out. Some talking heads are saying weeks or months. Yikes! I find that hard to swallow, though.

I agree. However, we have yet to squash the optimistic bulls. The fact that Voltaire is exiting this market can only be viewed as a bullish indicator for the short term. Tomorrow may be a great day to enter for a short term rally.

In the end, I am looking for many companies to revisit their 96 lows.

I think Fleck did a very good job at explaining what happened yesterday -- people bought expecting the nastiness to be over in October and expecting an after-election rally --- as such it can't happen now as everybody who wanted in is in

Luc, not everyone sells at once. The "reasons" that the media create to explain market events become self-reinforcing. The initial selling will have nothing to do with the election, but the selling will be attributed to it. Soon, people will begin selling BECAUSE of the election.
