GerPol: I knew you would ask that.

In all honesty, it is difficult to get into the US. I do not yet have the requisite University degree, nor are my skills "unique and in demand".

Therein lies the reason why I am still here. I have considered it.

But I don't want to just run away. I actually hope, deep down inside, that Canada can somehow redeem itself and get back "in shape". We are socially fat, economically malnourished, theologically ignorant, and mentally unchallenged.

And I don't just sit and whine, doing nothing. I was actively involved in the campaign against Bill C-68. I am actively involved in the local Alliance campaign. And I am actively involved in volunteer activities to make my community, my little corner of the world, a better place.

My fear is that one of these days, some country that is a little meaner, a little leaner, and desperate for territory is going to come parading into our neighbourhood, wielding a big stick.

If Canada doesn't wake up soon and smell the flowers, the flowers are all gonna be trampled to death. Am I a doomsayer? No. I just think democracy and freedom, as the US Attorney General Janet Reno pointed out this morning on TV, should never be taken for granted.
