We aren't prey. We are hunters

Every creature has always been both. Even ignoring our undisclosed superiors, we are still probably hunted and preyed on--and by, (statistically)--more than any other creature...mainly by one another.

It's a very cool story, and I like it a lot. Makes a lot more sense than some guy floating in the clouds. You might like The Wisdom of the Bones.

My reviews of Wisdom of Bones gives me some small perspective on it. I'm not too keen on ascribing meaning to cloud floaters either...

you just wouldn't use those eyes in the back of your head enough to make them a viable trade off

Surely you would. They don't have to trade off. It is not an either/or. It is just a move that would seem beneficial, but it involves knowledge that we don't have data on, and are thus making a lot of suppositions upon.

Clearly, a race of hominids with this structure--and otherwise equal to the average human--would be capable (if they chose) of subjugating their fellow creatures in short order.

And if you gave me time to derive applications from 360 degree vision...weaponry, etc.--kiss your opposable thumbs good-by!
