Over the past year, three supreme court justices have expressed their desire to retire in the next 2-4 years. Once has come out publicly and said he would postpone that decision. This was reported in a daily city law journal but i can't remember which one i read it in.

As for what Bush will and won't do, there were some bills that Clinton vetoes that the republican house passed and senate passed. these will be re-introduced (notwithstanding a narrower margin in both houses) and Bush won't dare veto a republican sponsored bill. so, while bush will be tied down a bit more than i originally thought he would, he will be the right wing's puppet. And, i agree with you, put this man under pressure and it won't be him making any decisions at all, it will be Cheney (a man that scares me more than Bush does).

Clappy, I couldn't agree with you more. Whoever wins is going to have to court the other side of the aisle big time...they don't have a choice. What's interesting to note....there are two ancient Senators ...Helms and Thurmond...who I think are both in their 90's and may not be able to finish their Senate terms. Their replacements will be appointed by governors from there respective states. I'm not sure, but I think the governors are both democrats...could be wrong.

At least Gore and Bush are sending out the right balanced messages about the process going forward.

Amazing times eh?
