I would personnally vote to maintain the electoral college. The intent of the EC was to minimize regional popularity [which extends to the point you have made]. So while I think we both share the same opinion, I think we may be on the losing side on this one. <s>

It is worth noting, that someone correctly pointed to the electoral map [2000] looked pretty "regional". Though I don't think that really impacts my decision so far. The EC does seem to minimize regional popularity, not guarantee it.
