I think you got that one wrong. The article says "... Die Reinraumfläche der Fab 30 soll um rund 2800 m2 auf fast 12.000 m2 vergrößert werden. ..."
That means that the clean room area will be expanded by 2800m² to 12000m².

P.S.: 1m² is about 10,76 square feet, i.e. 2800m² are about 30000 square feet.

AMD will expand FAB 30's clean room for 60 million deutschmarks (ca. 25 million dollars) by the German firm Jenoptik. The clean room area is expected to grow to 12,000 m^2

Anyone have any idea how many extra wafer starts this will allow?
