Relatively few people in fact invested enough passion in either candidate to feel too greatly cheated or betrayed no matter what the outcome. Neither candidate is charismatic or inspirational enough in his own right to warrant being the source of much extended angst beyond the next three months or so. The loser will be all but forgotten in the larger scheme of things, and rightly so. The freakish closeness of the vote itself transcends both candidates, and is more dramatic and interesting than either of them individually.

Life will go on pretty much as usual.
