We used the same type of punch ballot on the northern fringe of Illinois until this year. All candidates were listed on one page and you punched the hole next to the candidates name. Clearly thousands of citizens were confused/misled by the butterfly ballot. Many instinctively punched the hole next to Gore/Lieberman. Then realizing there mistake punched again.

Unfortunately this situation will never be settled, no matter what the outcome. As we see on this board, it will be the cause of many speculative conspiracy theories.

Note: I just heard Bill Seidman say the same thing about conspiracy theories.
