This whole thing is a mess..it's time for computerized voting.

Imagine a system crash midway through the day. It would make this look a walk in the park.

Here in the backwoods of NC (nearest town population 400) we already have computerized voting. The booths are self-contained (individually battery-powered) with electro-luminescent displays using touch screens for data entry. They fold up into suitcase-like carrying cases and their output is a floppy disk. Having each unit self-contained rather than networked ensures there is no such thing as a "system crash"...if one fails (which I've never seen) you simply take it out of service.
