I think the distinctions between imperialism, socialism, communism, democracy, liberal, conservative, centrist, are meaningful.

I think you used that word too easily.

I've spent time in Eastern Europe and what amazes me here is how we all take for granted that this process could even occur--there could be this many opinions all voiced loudly all over the country, freely (anybody can say waht they think), that votes ARE being recounted, that people CAN sue because they're pissed off. It leads to trouble (and I'm mighty pissed at the way this is playing out, and hope it gets resolved tonight) but what underlies it is the most profound freedom. We have a Nader. We have the press. We have protests.

So along with the bitching there should be appreciation--this country is far from socialist
