RE: "If the Pinellas recount results hold, they would reduce the Bush margin in Florida to about 500 votes with about half of Florida's 67 counties reporting recount results. Bush's election night lead of 1,784 had already been reduced to 941 with early recount results."

Hi John,

It's a close race. Who would ever think it could come down to only 500 votes.

There is a strong chance Bush will win:
- absentee votes
- I imagine they would count the Democratic districts first (which would imply the later counts will be more Bush gains).

However, I'm not sure what they'll do with the 19,000 votes that were disqualified because people pressed two holes in their attempt to vote for a President and if a re-vote is done, this could favor Gore. However, I rather doubt a re-vote would occur, given there was a Democrat that approved their election ballot. But if they did do a re-vote in PB, then they would need to recount the other states that favored Gore by a close margin (as GV had correctly suggested).

I know you like Bush, so if he wins, congratulations.

For future elections, I sincerely hope (for everyone's benefit, regardless of the Party) there are simple changes to avoid these types of problems in the future (who wants to go through this again?):

a) uniform ballot that's very clear (so absolutely no one could be confused by it)

b) open more polls in the future, so people in certain areas aren't shut out

c) do not keep polls open after the closing time.

Regards,
Amy J
