I could not agree more.

I hope, should Bush still win the recount, that he will remember his words spoken then and spoken yesterday, and behave like the stateman he so wants to be.

great post. I was just thinking of what might happen if they announce a victor before the market closes.

My bet, a lot is factored into it right now. They announce Bush victorious, the market immediately takes a nose dive. if there is time enough in the day, it might be a great buying opportunity to sell into strength tomorrow.

But that's for people that have guts. I'm already in my gutsy play for today.

unbelievable to me that a "servant of the people" would hold the country and the stock market hostage for his or her own egotistical desires.

Keep one VERY important thing in mind. No Gore, no pardons. No one ever accused the Clintonistas of ever sacrificing for the good of the country. . . .

And why didn't the democratic represenative say something about it BEFORE the election? Why didn't someone say something about it when it was published in the newspapers?

WHY NOW? sour grapes, IMO.

AG,

I have to disagree... when it comes to 19,000 votes getting "thrown out" then the will of the people may be usurped. I believe that Gore already (inadvertently) conceded based upon electoral votes, so I don't think the issue is electoral versus popular. In fact, this would be a futile argument anyway since you can not change the constitution retro-active.

No, rather the issue at hand is the fairness of the election - did all the ballots get counted (boxes missing and such nonesense), were the ballots in Palm Beach confusing (apparently so since Buchanan got nearly 4000 votes and another 19,000 were thrown out because of double voting), and what about the over sea's ballots (which from what I understand may help Bush).

The shame is what the press has done.... that is the real shame... but bottom line... we need to clear this up so that all votes are counted. AND, if there was an issue with ballots that should be corrected. This crap about.. well, they didn't complain about the ballots before the election is a cop out. If the ballots caused problems for voters and with that voters didn't get to exercise their right to vote for their candidate then that has to be fixed OR WE WILL HAVE PROBLEMS!!! And that is a scary thought. What if Bush wins because 19,000 votes were thrown out - in effect giving Bush the presidency with neither the popualar vote and potentially the electoral vote as well!

Let me just go on record as saying I don't like Bush... And the way he has handled this situation just confirms my opinion of what a pompice ass he is. If he was presendential he would have swallowed his pride and said, we'll have to wait until all the votes are counted.. instead he is subtly claiming victory... and also (as it appears) his incredulous tone with Gore when Gore recanted his concession... Hey, what did he expect! The press screwed this thing up, Gore should not have conceeded.. but Bush should have graciously understood. Some president he'll make. What an ass.

OG
