I agree that. When they decided about electoral votes, there was no rail road, no internet, no telephone, no cars, no radio, no TVs, no cell phones etc, etc.
With advancements in all these technologies, distance is dead. Hence, the notion that candidates will favour one state over other will vanish if they have to get a majority of popular vote. If popular vote is to be given equal value, then a Joe sleeping in remote range in Wyoming as important as a Nerd in front of computer in San Jose or Dallas.
Whatever the founding fathers intended, has weaknesses and were based on their time, under standing and situation. They never thought a lot of crooks and immoral characters will be in congress, Senate, and white house (for example Nixon, Bill Clinton to name a few). Based on the history, everything evolves over time and there should be no exception to people voting for president.
But we have to accept whatever the outcome of this election and have a healthy debate and follow up actions to change these weaknesses.
All JMHO.
