Re mutual funds vs stocks, clearly there are lots of folks still buying funds - at least in Canada we saw record fund inflows this last 12 months and I believe that is true for the US as well.

But direct participation in the stock market is also at an all time high, and that is probably one of the big problems. While there are good and bad fund managers, most of them probably have more experience with *selling* than most of the average Mary or Mike investors ;)
