They might have let it slip by, if it was the other candidate who got hurt. Might have even brought their attention to a possible future reason to invalidate an election in a close election won by the "other guy," as is the case with Bush.

And, there might be another plausible explanation for double-punching, too. Maybe people thought the machine wouldn't catch two votes. Some might have thought they could vote for two candidates. And some might have changed their minds while in the booth. And, for sure, some people just didn't think.

My opinion of whether the election supervisor is an idiot, incompetent, dishonest, or qualified doesn't matter. The VERY PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPLAINING RIGHT NOW ELECTED HER! She is an elected official, they voted for her!
