Srexley: Yes, the 3 percent figure is true. It may end up being a point or two higher ... maybe 4 or 5 percent, but that figure was based on polling conducted Sunday-Monday. 91 percent of African-Americans said they intended to vote for Gore; 3 percent said they intended to vote for Bush; the rest were undecided. (I would also add the Detroit figures reported yesterday also reflected this overwhelming split.) Among the Hispanic community, support for Gore was 75 percent and support for Bush was 25 percent. The large Hispanic population in New Mexico also tilted the election there to Gore. Bush lost tens of thousands of African-American votes by his opposition to the hate-crimes bill.
