To All: I would like to add a little anecdotal perspective to the so-called "Butterfly" ballots that are being roundly criticized by such national Democrats as Jesse Jackson and Bill Daley, Gore's campaign manager.

I live in Evanston, Illinois, which is part of Cook County. Chicago is also part of Cook County. Cook County is dominated by the Democrats. And the most dominant Democrat of all is Mayor Richard M Daley, the brother of Bill Daley. Additionally, Jesse Jackson lives in Chicago. (Indeed, I have had the privilege of sitting next to Jesse and his son buck naked in the steam room of the Luxor Steam baths on Division Street)

Those terrible awful "Butterfly" ballots? Guess what. Cook County has "Butterfly" ballots. If a professional politician like Dick Daley felt that "Butterfly" ballots were so awful, he could have eliminated them quickly. Thus, the confusion in Palm Beach County (also controlled by the Democrats) is nobody's fault but the duly elected Democratic officials of that county, and it is more than a little bit dishonest for Bill Daley to complain about Butterfly ballots, when they are used in the same county which is controlled by his brother.
