Nextel CEO Comfortable With Co.'s
Spectrum Capacity

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- A recent decision by the Federal Communications
Commission to increase available spectrum in the 800 MHz band is a boost
for Nextel Communications Inc. (NXTL), said its chief executive.

"The ruling last week was a tremendous lift for us," said Tim Donahue in a
CNBC interview Monday.

Donahue said that there will be great demand for data products and services,
and "this gives us a lot of capacity to put these products in the marketplace
which customers are going to be demanding."

Regarding upcoming auctions for spectrum space, Donahue said, Nextel has
sufficient spectrum capacity "to take us into the future," but the company will
be "at the table," and "we will play" if the prices are reasonable.

"We have a history of buying spectrum very efficiently and putting it to work
very effectively for our customers, he said.

That is good news for the long term health of the company, and the hold position after the buy on October 16th seems to be working out nicely now too..... Yogi
