Democrats chose the "butterfly" ballots to reduce errors by the elderly in that county,i.e., by increasing size of letters to make for easier reading by older folks. The elderly had been complaining about those "tiny names" etc. They've misvoted often in every election ,and will continue to do so.It's just normal in Florida. They are not stupid, they just have trouble seeing...A manual count, called for by some, would likely lead to major errors and would take forever.It might well be what the dems want.
