That would be nice but there are not 25 unpledged electors in FL. There are 50 candidates for electors(25 Dems and 25 Repubs). That is what caused the 1876 fiasco.

Here is how I see this whole thing and I will try to be impartial, but please bear with me.

The Repubs want the recount to be the FINAL determination. They do not want a revote(even if restricted to ONLY those who voted in Palm Beach County on Tuesday)

The Dems want a revote restricted to only those who voted on Tuesday because of a problem with the Ballot.

Now, for the analysis:

The Dems want the revote or further pursuit of the answer to the double punched ballots etc. because they believe that the construct of that ballot took votes away from Gore.

The Repubs do not want the revote or further pursuit of teh ballot issue because they also believe the construct of that ballot took votes away from Gore and they believe Bush would thus lose. In other words, even if it can be shown/proven that the ballot is illegal/misleading, they would still not want a revote again.

I know it sounds like spin, but if you think about it, I believe I am right.

Notwithstanding my prior post, let me say that no matter who wins this election loses. The weakening that will be imposed on the new President will be substantial.

Again as part of the continuing education in political science that I impart<g>, let me give you this. After reading this, you will see my point clearly.

Presidents who won close elections/controversials

Adams...1 term
JQ Adams...1 term
Hayes...1 term
Garfield...assasinated but his VP didn't even get the nomination
Cleveland...1 term
Harrison...1 term
Kennedy...assassinated and his VP won a landslide
Nixon...relected but resigned from office
Carter...1 term

Except for Richard Nixon, all of the close elections produced 1 term presidents. Then again he was forced out.

Note: Wilson's 2nd election was close but not the first one.

Presidents who won elections that weren't close

Washington...2 terms(unanimous)
Jefferson...2 terms(his first election did have a problem with bad wording re: EC voting but Jefferson beat Adams bad
Madison, MOnroe, Jackson...2 terms
Van Buren...1 term
Harrison...died in office, his VP did not run again
Polk... 1 term
Taylor...died in office
Pierce...1 term
Buchanan...1 term
Lincoln...2 terms but assassinated,Johnson impeached
Grant...2 terms
Cleveland...2 terms non-consecutive(his 2nd term was big win, but he didn't run again)
McKinley...2 terms but he was assassinated in 2nd term
Roosevelt..most of two terms after McKinley assassination
Taft...1 term
Wilson...2terms (1st election was a blowout)
Harding...1 term died in office
Coolidge...finished Hardings term and won blow out
Hoover...1 term
FDR...4 terms died in office
Truman...finished FDR term and his re-election(believe it or not) was not close!
Eisenhower...2 terms
Johnson...finished Kennedy's term, elected but chose not to run in 1968
Nixon(2nd election)...resigned from office
Reagan...2 terms
Bush...1 term
Clinton...2 terms

Note that there is a clear correlation between closeness of the election and ability to get re-elected. Exceptions: The pre civil war guys, Taft(who pissed Roosevelt off), Wilson(his 2nd term election was the close one), Hoover(can you say Great Depression),Bush( it's the economy stupid).
