Elmer, It's fourth down and one. The quarterback takes the ball and dives forward. 10 people pile on top of him. Three minutes later the referee has cleared the pile, and then he marks where he thinks the ball ended up. (Obviously the quarterback was sliding the ball forward under the pile, and the defense was trying to push it back.) Finally, they pull the chains out and measure within one millimeter to determine if it was a first down. The accuracy of this process is terrible, yet we still use 1mm precision. Right now, the referee in Florida is clearing out the pile. Scumbria
