AltaVista has inked a deal with Private Media Group -- a NASDAQ-listed porn merchant - that will allow the venture to advertise its wares on AltaVista's sites in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Terms of the agreement weren't disclosed, but it's likely that AltaVista will receive a share of the revenue generated by new adult site subscriptions for directing sex-related queries to Private. Still, the beneficiary here is Private. After all, AltaVista performs an average of 50 million search queries per day -- about 35 percent of all searches conducted on the Web -- and according to Private CEO Berth Milton, nearly half of all searches on AltaVista are sex related.
