Irony of irnoies, they held a 200 year anniversary of the white house tonight, Hilary I must admit looked lovely in a gown I would like to have myself, George & Barbara Bush came, the Fords, Carters, etc. And various stars in various political monetary and artistic arenas. I was watching excerpts of the speeches and they were pretty interesting. Hilary reminded us that Dolly Madison, under strict orders from her husband to flee because the British were coming, took the time to save the painting of George Washington, but because it was bolted to the wall she had the frame broken and the canvas lifted off. She also saved the Declaration of Independence, and wrote her sister a letter before she finally hightailed it away. The dinner she'd made her husband was still on the table when the Brits came and they ate it before they burned down the WHite House
