The Founding Fathers created the Electoral College in 1787 as a buffer between the citizens and election of the president. It was to protect the nation from mob rule and ensure power for less-populous states.

"The Electoral College is meant to require that a candidate have a broad geographic reach,'' said Michael Malbin, political science professor at the State University of New York at Albany. "It requires people to have different kinds of constituencies

"This is not the federal republic of America,'' Torricelli said. "It is the United States of America. Our sense of union, and everyone's inclusion, has now been based on this Electoral College.

OT.....
We are probably chasing cars by talking about the process. A lot of yapping but it is just noise.

Are we missing what the closeness of the vote means? Admitted..the process is flawed....but it has only been an issue (I think) three times since the founding of the nation....
If you look at and study those times...
It was not a matter of people voting for someone as it was a matter of them voting against something.

I think that this time period qualifies... we need other options than the party line. The election being this close express a deep degree of disharmoy.

I haven't voted for anyone in twenty years...just picked the lesser of two evils....
We need more options.....be you liberal...conservative...moderate...whatever.....
The way it is....Is which ever whore can lie to you best and make you believe it....

Cynical, I admit. But, just once before I die, I would like to vote for someone....
